How to help?

“…then the Big Mother Ceiba stood up among the memories of the Earth’s destruction. She settled straight and raised her top, asking for eternal leaves, and with her branches called her Lord. Then, stood up the four ceibas that will hold up the sky on the four directions of the universe: the black to the Occident; the white to the North; the red to the Orient and the yellow to the South”

Popol Vuh

A non profit organization is conformed when a group of citizens join their interests to achieve a mission that they consider important. Then they look for the support of their fellow citizens, companies, governmental authorities and financial sources to achieve their goals. Civil society participation represents the citizen’s interest and will to promote and achieve changes that favor society and its environment. Under this context, in 1990 Pronatura Peninsula de Yucatan, A.C. (PPY) was constituted as an initiative of a group of people concerned about conservation and sustainable use of the natural patrimony in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Throughout 15 years, PPY has had the support and confidence of individuals, institutions and foundations, which have helped PPY maintain its course as a solid conservationist organization in the region.

We work to: conserve the biodiversity and natural patrimony; conserve and maintain scenic and landscape services that provide recreational opportunities; maintain environmental services like water collection; protect the habitat of charismatic, endemic, threatened and endangered species; generate biological, ecological and cultural information, as well as promoting local capacities in rural communities.

The professional staff of PPY carries out a coordinated work with different agencies focused on natural resource conservation, management and protection, in the Yucatan Peninsula.

Partners for conservation

A landscape is conquered with shoes soles not with automobile tires.

William Faulkner

Throughout a decade, PPY has allowed the participation and contribution of almost 85 people and/or companies located mainly in the Yucatan Peninsula. They have an elevated interest and social commitment to support the institutional strengthening of PPY and its conservation projects. These resources are strategic to complement other labeled funds for specific projects.

The concept of “Partners for Conservation” means a monthly donation of, at least, one minimum wage that will be used in activities of our organization, allowing the development of new conservation projects.

We invite you to be in contact with us and participate in the conservation of nature. All your donations are deductibles.

Volunteers

In nature there are no punishments or prizes, there are only consequences.

Chinese Proverb

Pronatura Peninsula de Yucatan is an organization committed with future generations. This is why we developed a program destined to receive national and international volunteers interested in carrying out their professional practices, social services, thesis, internships or that simply wish to support our activities.

Because we are a non profit organization we do not have funds for scholarships, nor do we have other economic supports for volunteers, but we do have the experience to support formalities in national and international aid agencies.

We hope you will be part of our projects and participate in the conservation of the nature.
