Private Reserve of El Zapotal   The Private Reserve of El Zapotal was created with the purpose of stopping the growth of the farming zone and the deterioration of ecosystems in the southeastern region of the Ría Lagartos Biosphere. It is designed to develop a model of conservation and sustainable management of natural resources, as well as a center destined to the generation of priority information, conservation projects, news spreading and transfer of information, promoting alliances with neighboring communities and private land owners, academic institutes and of superior education, civil organizations and governmental dependencies. The program manages the following themes: •Management for private land conservation. •Impulse for scientific investigation. •Environmental education, knowledge transfer and community work for conservation. The program is focused on the influence zone of the south eastern portion of the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve, in the municipality of Tizimin, Yucatan. El Zapotal has an extension of 2,300 ha and is located in Yucatan, in the northeast municipality of Tizimin. This reserve collides with the farmlands of Nuevo León (South and East), Santa María Pixoy and El Limonar (East), Nuevo Tekal (North, in the breaking zone of the Ria Lagartos Biosphere Reserve), Nuevo Mundo (West) and private ranches (Sowthwest).
