Finances and Operational Support

Its main purpose is to provide operational support to the technical areas of PPY, in order to ensure that the programs and projects are applying their resources according to the institution’s policies and procedures, within the established time limits and according to the compromises taken with donators and financial sources.

The financial and operational support given to programs and projects follows this sequence:

•Programming-Costs analysis
•Project Operations
•Accounting

There is an annual work program that leads eleven basic activities, in which final products, organizational chart and activities of each member of the team are described:

•Elaboration of annual financial plan of the Association.
•Support for the elaboration of proposals and fund raising for projects.
•Support in fund raising for the development of the institution.
•Project operations, in the cost analysis phase.
•Rendering accounts to financial sources.
•Management of the Annual Operational Program’s of the Biosphere Reserves of Calakmul and Ria Lagartos.
•Support for the hiring and payment of PPY personnel.
•Institutional accounting, Emitting of Financial Positions.
•Rendering accounts to Directive Advisories and General Administration.
•Proposing different actions to contribute to the better development of the institution.
•Applying laws concerning CSO’s.

The work program is grouped in five axes or lines of action:

•General administration.
•Management of costs and finances.
•Institutional accounting.
•Material resources and general services.
•Human Resources.

The Finances and Operational Support Program has a regional task, as it Works in all PPY’s other programs, and consequently, in all the geographic areas where Pronatura Peninsula de Yucatan develops its projects.

During 2005, the operation of 22 projects have been supported, among which are those related to: lands for conservation, ecorregional planning, planning for conservation of different sites, monitoring of key species, management of potential ecotouristic zones, geographic information systems, ecological diagnose, conservation and management programs, reinforcement of abilities, etc. All these have an influence in 7 natural protected areas of Federal, State, and private administration. Funds of 17 partners that include international, national, regional agencies and organizations are managed. In total, close to $11 million Mexican pesos are managed.
